Avid DF issue PAL ONLY
A while ago I bought up the issue of early 101E's being sent from the factory with a Dropframe bit set for PAL. Because the Avid is one of the few NLE's that actually polls code and checks all the tImecode bits it has been tripped up by this incorrect setting, completely disabling redigitising or batching. I had my camera adjusted a while ago.
Recently I had the firmware upgraded by JVC and the fault returned. The following email excerpt from Graham Tuite of JVC Australia explains the problem and what to look out for. He is referring here to fixing my camera after the firmware upgrade. "FYI, the setting hadn't changed from what was previously set, and I had to change it back to OFF (which is the factory default), so those settings must be stored in a separate area. What has actually happened is that the new firmware now sets the function correctly. In fact the setting is now called DF BIT (previously DF MASK) and the factory default is still OFF. It means that any camera with the new firmware version will function correctly in its factory default state, so hopefully, no more AVID problems!" I bring this up because any Avid PAL user who had the original firmware fixed and then updated will find they have the old problem back until this switch is moved back to OFF. |
