Best PC Laptop For Avid Xpress Pro
I searched the forum and the last thread like this I found was from 2003. I'd say it's time for an update.
I'm a Mac-lovn Final Cut editor, but I've recently discovered the wonder that is Avid. Like many, I was forced to learn because the bulk of pro work out there is still done on Avid, sorry FCP. Anyhow, I've heard even though they updated the software to Intel Macs, that in general the PC version runs better and is updated more often. So I'm thinkin, in a world where I have a bunch of money to toss around, I'll get a PC laptop to tote around editing all kinds of fun stuff. The question is which one? I've been checking out some of the cracked out offerings from Alienware and Dell, especially the new XPS 1730. Or maybe you think I should just get a big honkin desktop and ride-along with my MBP? Who's got thoughts on the subject? Thanks in advance for the help.

Jonathan,
I have a nearly 2 year old HP dv4000 Single core Centrino with 1.2 Gb ram and 5.5 Xpress Pro under XP2 SP2 and it runs very well. The only thing I regret is not having an Nvidia graphics setup. My Intel dedicated graphics accelerator doesn't support going full screen. Other than that it is running great. I can edit HDV all day using Firewire and eSATA using Express II Express Card. I think that any dual core with 2 Gig memory, discrete 256 Mb Nvidia graphics, and a SATA (raid would zing) will do the trick. Good Luck
