Kula Media Group and MainConcept Enter Into Licensing Agreement
Kula Media Group, a leading provider of advanced audio/video processing technologies, today announced that it has entered into a licensing agreement with MainConcept, the world leader in video compression technology, to deliver Kula’s KulaByte™ Professional encoding solution to the professional video industry. KulaByte and MainConcept have entered into a license agreement for the inclusion of MainConcept’s H.264, MPEG2, VC1 and JPEG2000 codecs in the KulaByte Professional encoding solution, which will be marketed to professionals in the broadcast, cable, satellite, Internet and mobile video industries.
The full press release appears below. The KulaByte Professional encoder, in benchmark tests, delivers up to a 30% increase in quality, or bandwidth savings over current encoding technologies. KulaByte’s ability to utilize 2- and 4-pass variable bit rate (VBR) encoding in live and on-demand broadcasting will enable customers to realize superior qualities, faster encoding speeds and more efficient bandwidth utilization. The KulaByte Professional encoding solution will become generally available in the late fourth quarter of 2006, starting at $5,000.00 USD. Kula Media Group’s patent-pending KulaByte technology enables encoding stations to encode as much as 16x faster than the standard industry encoders, and delivers higher quality results and greater efficiencies than encoders priced at more than 10 times the cost . KulaByte-enabled H.264 encoding of 720p or 1080i HD formats have demonstrated encoding speeds up to 2.5 times faster than real time. Kulabyte’s speeds increase proportionately as processor cores are added, so there is virtually no limit to the speeds attainable by using Kulabyte.
