Sony HDR CX300 transfer times

Hey all...

I've been given a camera to me that's been internally recorded. Unfortunately, the stick is only 4gig, and I can't dub the movie onto stick.
I therefore attempt to hook up the camera to my USB 2.0 port, and after 5 minutes, the computer freezes.

Do these cameras require a faster connection then my current setup?
I had no problem transferring over a small clip earlier via card reader..
