Can we expect to see firmware upgrades to H.265?
I was checking out this comparison of the new H.265 codec against Prores4:4:4 and it looks like the new codec is going to be pretty nifty. Article is here:
New H.265 codec on test - ProRes 4444 quality for 1% of the file size » EOSHD.com So, according to this article, the required processing power is going to be huge. And yet, some of the newer DSLRs have been pumping out some pretty healthy bitrates. My 70D is 91mbps. So I'm wondering if we can expect to see any firmware implementation of the new codec on cameras like the 70D and the A7 or are we going to have to wait and buy new cameras with special coding chipsets and even faster processors in another year? Bob

That. H.265 is no mere firmware upgrade.

don't worry, it's not soon. your current camera will be plenty outdated and far newer, more capable cameras will be available when 265 finally gets implemented

It is one thing to crank up the bitrate on a given codec, another thing entirely to change the codec.
