Movist: Free AVCHD player for Mac

Here's a great little player that few people seem to know of yet. It plays MTS files from my Canon HF100 and Sony NXCAM without a hitch straight off the SDHC card, while VLC stutters on both (and I'm on an 8-core Mac Pro).

Like VLC, Movist plays just about everything you throw at it. It also does a much better job with WMVs. It still has some bugs but works fine for the most part.

Downloads - movist - Project Hosting on Google Code

You can also find it at Macupdate or Versiontracker.

Wow that little player worked great! Thanks a lot. I have recently downloaded a few 1080p 60p AVCHD clips that just would not play in VLC player on my Imac. This player however worked very well although I'm still not sure if it was really playing 60p. It looked more like 30p to me but at least the stuff played.

I can't resist. I have to bump this thread and also give props to this especially when playing directly off the SD Card. VLC struggled to display AVCHD 1080P clips from my GH1.

Hey, another +1 here. Just downloaded it and tested it on some clips from a Canon HF100 and it played them without problem! This is pretty awesome 'cause it's kind of embarrassing when I have to say I need to import the footage to make it convenient to preview!

Rickey,

I've used Movist on a 2x quad-core 2.8Ghz Mac Pro and a Core 2 duo 2.53Ghz MacBook Pro playing 24 Mbps MTS files from a class 6 SDHC card without any issues. Not sure why you're having problems.

Movist excellent

Wow, Movist plays mts and other files that VLC couldn't. It's rare that VLC is unable to cope with a file. This is a great find, thanks, Matt!

Thanks

Movist is perfect. Thanks. At last I can easily preview the MTS files before deciding which ones to render.
