Why is it so hard to find a 4k mini-to-hdmi?

Is the $61 Atomos HDMI cable the only one capable of 4k 60? Even Amazon didn't really have any obvious options.

Re: Why is it so hard to find a 4k mini-to-hdmi?

Even a lot of HDMI-to-HDMI cables in my experience won't do (even if some are rated 4kp60!).
And using a converter from HDMI-to-HDMI-mini may give problems as well.

For HDMI to HDMI I had success with this one but many others were failures. They work great for 24p but not for 60p.

But the cable is rather stiff and please, your mileage may vary!

$60 is not very much for peace of mind and they bend much easier than straight cables.

Why is it so hard to find???

Just did a quick search and the first "hit" was an article from Crutchfield: "HDMI cables buying guide". it was an interesting read.

In my first pass through the article it may explain why p60 is a problem ... are the manufacturers are dumbing down the system to make you pay for their service? But then it mentions about fiber.

Interesting post.

Re: Why is it so hard to find a 4k mini-to-hdmi?

I bought a couple different mini-HDMI to HDMI that were rated for 4k60, but none of them will pass a signal at 4k from my XF405 to my Shogun Flame. I can literally switch the HDMI resolution between HD and 4K and it will suddenly appear. I guess I'll have to give the Atomos cable a shot, although I don't see the XF405 on their supported cameras list, so may be it just doesn't work for some reason. Going to check firmware versions on both the camera and the Flame.

Jeremiah - you are sooo lucky! the Atomos US office is about a 20 mile drive from Newberg! Thats almost like being in your back yard. Give them a call and see if you can take your monitor and cam to them and test the cable. If it tests out okay then they can add the cam to their list.

Atomos USA
2056 NE Aloclek Drive
Suite #303
Hilsboro OR 97124
+1 (503) 388-3236

It would sure be nice if I could access them that easy.

Welllllll, it turns out the Flame can't handle 4k60, only 4k30 and 4k24
