An explanation - almost - for FCS "3"
In this release, a supposed insider says that the latest release of FCS is in fact what we've all considered it to be: a service pack, not a true update, and that the "real" update won't come until 2010:

Thanks for sharing Robert. It does make sense. I was surprised when FCS PRE-DATED an OS release.

Remember when after Final Cut Pro 4 came out that some time later 4.5 came out with more features. I think they needed to get the current version out the door while some things were not yet finished. I suspect we'll be seeing another update within the year.
