New Camcorder Coming?
Could the unexpected price drop on the Panny DVC30 be a signal that another new camcorder may soon be announced?
Seems like the current rebate on the GL2 is set to expire on September 30th. I doubt if the Panny price drop is in response to the new Sony that is almost twice the price of the DVC30. Well, this is Area 51 so why not ask the question. On the other hand, so few people are expressing an interest in a replacement for the GL2 that there may not be any new GL3 (or not even a Gee-Wiz Two and a-Half). Could it be that Canon is a "one trick pony" and nothing is planned after the XL2. Canon a one trick pony? Blasphemy! Sure they may be somewhat pedantic about not releasing information concerning new products, but so was Oldsmobile. Oops, maybe not a good example. Well, only time will tell. |

Well at this rate everything's a sign that a new camcorder is coming around the corner.
But with the DVX100a sitting at $3200 and the PD-170 coming in at around $2,900, after rebate at B&H, it's putting a lot of pressure on ANY camcorders in the $2,000-3,000 range. Especially after you factor in an XLR adapter + wide angle lense!!! Anything new has to be significantly competitive with those 2 camcorders, otherwise it's just not worth it.

Some places who sell the DVX100A have lowered their prices also. Now that maybe do to the XL2. Who knows
