New HDV Cameras by Sony, Canon, JVC
Hey guys,
So the speculation is that Canon will introduce XL1s replacement. They want it to stay current for at least 3 years. So we can pretty much assume that it will have HDV mode, or else it would be obsolete a lot sooner. Sony developed the 1080i portion of HDV, JVC the 720p portion. Canon and Sony cooperate a lot. If Canon is about to introduce HDV camera, so is Sony. Steve Mullen said that the HDV manufacturers wanted to be tight lipped about HDV at NAB because they expect new model introductions in the Summer and early disclosures would hurt their current camera sales. JVC said that it will introduce the $20K HDV model at the end of the year but prior to that there will be introduction of a less expensive model. Could it be this Summer? Could it be July? Their HD 10 was not received very well by pros. It may be time for an upgrade. Sharp is part of the HDV group too. They may introduce some consumer model. This Summer we may see some nice new HDV cameras. Mike |
