XL1S for $3000
I just got an e mail from buy.com advertising the XL1S for $3500 minus a $500 Canon rebate. Is this the beginning of the end for the XL1S?

Canon history would lead one to believe that when the special runs out
June 30th, the new XL2 butterfly may break out of the chrysalis July 1. IF that happens, $3K will probably be more money than you should have spent on 06-30-04.

I wonder, does the rebate for the GL2 run out at the same time? I'm holding off on my camera upgrade from my measly ZR model, just to see what Canon has to offer in July/August -- if they have something to offer. So far, I've been leaning to try the new Panasonic DVC30. Historically, do you all think that if Canon announces a new XL model, will they also announce a new GL model?

I think that the new camera will be HDV and only one model will be offered. But historically, I have no clue.

Canon has usually replaced or upgraded their cameras one at a time, not all at once.
The XL1 became the XL1s, and a year later the GL2 was announced. From what I have heard, the new XL camera will be announced in July, but you will have to wait until the Spring sometime for the new GL camera. -Luis |
