An off-the-shelf, high-end, modular HD cam...

1. A DSLR (Full-frame 35 or APS-C) front-end with live, uncompressed HDMI output.
2. A Sound Devices MixPre.
3. A Convergent Designs Nano-Flash.
4. An Anton Bauer Gold Mount adapter.
5. A Battery Bud power distribution box.
6. A Zacuto shoulder mount.

2 - 6 are here now. Just keeping my fingers crossed that someone will eventually deliver #1.

I bet it would even be less unwieldy than say, a Sony EX3.

We're nearly there. Check out the info related to Panasonics' new release, the AG-AF100. Sony is following suit with it's new "35mm cinema camera" that is supposed to be modular/upgradeable but that's not due out until next year sometime.
