Small update:

I am trying to find our which parts of video decoding/displaying are natively supported by nvidia ion ( GF 9400 ) under Linux before actualy buying a mainboard.

What looks promising so far:
YouTube - Acer revo - VDPAU - mplayer

MJPEG streams should also be a lot easier to handle than high performance codecs like H264, etc.
