Here is a link to a comparison of 500GB drives, it is not the best test but you will notice that there is a clear sustained performance leader among them, and it's the smaller comparison drives. These are the sort of drives you need for making a uncompressed Raw camera, or simply capturing uncompressed from a normal camera.

You will also find that there is a curious test showing what happens when you try to fill two files at once. This gives me an idea, the OS likes to maintain hidden systems files, and directory information, even on supposedly blank (apart from one file) disks, I wonder if that was a caused hiccups in our past efforts.
