mini35 with XL2

I have just done some tests with the XL2 and mini35, and I am quite dissapointed with the results, compared to the DVX100.

I wonder if anyone who has used this combination could share some advice. I suspect it may be the sharpness control in camera. I have tried zero and in the middle, and have played with unsharp mask in AE, but all I can achieve is mushy or too much noise.

With the DVX100a I found good results with sharpness in the middle. Using the in camera 16:9, it looks good, if a little grainy, even with the gg oscillating at maximum. The grain is OK because it moves from frame to frame, like film, and is very sharp and fine.

I would love to be able to use the XL2 because it's so much easier with the viefinder up front, but the quality seems not as good as the DVX100. Any help appreciated...........

Why not give us some more information?

1. which version of the mini35 do you have?

2. what where all of the settings on the lens, relay adapter and XL2 (including gain, iris'es, shutter speeds, shooting mode, custom settings etc.)

3. what where you shooting and in what kind of light

4. what kind of lens where you using

5. can you post a frame for us to see

6. on what kind of monitor are you reviewing this footage

Mike,

I'm quite happy with my results and have left the sharpness setting at its default, www.starcentral.ca/mini35rig.htm

XL2 / Mini35 on the big screen - In LA

Anyone wanting to see what the XL2/Mini35 footage blown up to big screen looks like can do so at the DV Film Festival on December 9th in Los Angeles.

My film, "Limb from Limb" was chosen as one of the short films to be screened at the festival.

Hey Eric,

Are you a rep for Indie Rentals? I am a producing a few shorts down here at SDSU and I am seriously eyeballing the mini35 for 2 of them.

I wanted to know if I could come up to LA and demo your unit, maybe run a quick latitude test or something and see the results on miniDV.

make a printscreen cap while having this problem and upload the picture with, for instance, http://www.imagevenue.com/ at least, if that is what you mean

Height of mini35 from base to XL2 platform?

I'm not near my mini35 and need to know the height the mini35 will add to the XL2 for an undersling bracket I bought for a jib arm.

Can someone measure the height from the bottom (base) of the mini35 to the base platform where the camera would go?

Even better if someone has the complete height of XL2 with mini35 300 that would be even better.

Thanks :)

mini35 + NTSC XL2 for sale - Toronto/Rochester location!

Looking to upgrade so time has come to sell! Low hours use mini35 series 300 with all trimmings and Canon XL2 NTSC with 0 hours use on stock lens and most Canon accessories still in box.

I'm located in Toronto area and can demo equipment if necessary. Lenses not for sale at this time but may consider selling. Nikon f1.2 - f1.4 24mm, 35mm, 55mm 85mm lenses.

Serious inquiries or offers please! email star @hy-way. com for other questions, info or pictures! Thank you!

As far as price please make a reasonable offer if you are serious about buying this equipment. I paid close to $18,000 Canadian funds total back in the day. Please don't email me telling me I got ripped off and understand that the price reflects the dollar value/exchange rates at that time and in addition all appropriate taxes, import and duty fees. (Remember I'm in Canada!) Anyway price can be extremely subjective especially when dealing with goods manufactured in another country, imported to USA then resold to another country ie. Canada. so I just wanted to point that out in advance.

Now that we're all clear... I will consider any reasonable offer made, let me know if you have any questions.

For picture see: http://www.starcentral.ca/siteimages...g_blue_big.jpg

To watch a 2 minute short titled Little Acorns shot entirely with this rig see http://www.starcentral.ca/images/bc/bc.htm
