The mini35 is a lens adaptor that allows you to mount 35mm
(cine) lenses to certain DV or DVCPRO cameras to give you take advantage of these lenses and their characterstics like a shorter Depth of Field. The device we are talking here is made by P+S Technik in Germany and you can find their info site at www.mini35.com Click here to see the device (it is fitted to a various camera's in those pictures) Keep in mind that it costs around $10,000 without any lenses. (see the price list on the last link for more details)

Well still no update from anyone about the replacement kit for the XL2 and mini35... I pickup my XL2 this week and will test it with my mini35 as soon as I get a chance - if it will work without this update kit that is. I will post my resulting footage as soon as I can.

I believe the XL2 Mini35 is now shipping through ZGC.

Charles,
But what kit is needed for the mini35 300 to work properly with the XL2? I've had the XL1 up until now and simply thought a direct swap would be possible? Charles - when are you getting your XL2? :) |

Dennis:
It's a replacement part for the 1/4-20 tiedown, just slightly taller than the XL1 version. Not a big deal. Eric MacIver got his setup a week or two ago.

Dennis,
The XL2 is about 4mm taller from the bottom tie-down plate to the lens center so the support platform of the Mini35 had to be re-designed to accommodate for this new height. ZGC has the new part available; it requires the swap a few parts from your existing ZL1 platform such as the spring-loaded assembly and the tie down knob. The new platform comes with a spacer to be used with the XL1, that makes the switch over quick and easy.
