Computers, thankfully, are broadcast format independent. You'd think they could build the same tech into our TVs but oh well.
Daniel, two things to consider when going the PAL route, which Dennis can comment on how he has decided to take care of them. Decks - If you plan to do a lot of shooting, you don't really want to use your PAL XL1s as your digitization deck, effectively cutting the head life in half. Two solutions...1) at the same time that you buy your PAL XL1s, also buy a PAL version of any of Canon's consumer level MiniDV camcorders. They use the exact same heads and tape transport of the XL1s and make for a great digitization deck. 2) invest in the Firestore FS-3, then you never have to digitize again. The other solution is to just buy a professional PAL studio deck...but who the heck really wants to do that these days. Studio monitor - while your computer monitor will have no trouble with PAL, your standard television will. You will have to invest in either a PAL television or a dual format Sony studio monitor if you want to be able to have the "client" monitor i.e. how is it going to look on "TV"
