Leica M Mount lenses on Letus Extreme

Greetings,

Last year I purchased a Letus extreme with a nikon mount to use with my EX1 and love it. Recently my boss bought a Leica M8 with a couple M mount lenses and I can't help but want to see what they would look like on my rig. I saw that Letus now offers a Leica R mount ring, but I can't seem to find a way to convert either an R mount to Leica M mount or Nikon mount to Leica M mount. Aside from a variety of google searches and forum searches I also tried novoflex. As soon as you enter nikon as the camera body Leica is off the table for their adaptors.

If anyone could tell me if this is possible I'd really appreciate it.

Best,
John

This quote is a direct rip-off from a Leica users forum.

"The back focus with film in the camera is 27.8mm (+/- 0.02mm)."

As David suggests, the Leica M mount lens ystem is not usable with the Letus Extreme. The flange of the M system would sit back inside the tubular front body of the Letus. YOu would not be able to get it close enough to the groundglass.

It could be said that getting something to work is a product of the will to make it happen.

What would be required for the Letus Extreme would be to shorten the front tube and re-drill the four screwholes to bring the M system focal plane into co-incidence with the groundglass and a custom lens mount insert for the front.

All-in-all, a lot of hard work just to be able to say it can be done and then it would be no use for other existing lens systems but the Leica M.

There would also likely be insufficent workspace for the "Elite" backfocus option to be fitted.

P+S Technik have a Leica M mount for their IMS mounting system which suggests the Leica M would work with their Mini35/Pro35 systems and the SI2K camera and RED one cameras with the IMS front mod fitted.
