The new iPod can record...

The new iPod Apple released on the 28th has a hidden recording feature, as noted in this online article:
http://ipoding.com/modules.php?op=mo...thread&order=0
The article above even tells you how to record right now if you have a new iPod. Sounds pretty cool to me, I just wonder about the inputs they will have and the quality of the recording!

this is killing me! i always thought "Holy crap, if you could record to this thing..." if only it had a USB input to take/power my USBPre, I would be set. think about location recording with that thing. smaller than a dat, and you could record for hours in a single sitting!

I didn't read the whole discussion, but that link you posted said you could press some strange combination of buttons, then record up to 6 seconds by speaking into the left earphone. Wow, that sounds useful ;-)

The firmware/software to enable recording has not been released yet. The weird combination of buttons and the six second limit is merely a test mode for a service technician to test the record capabilities. Speculation is that it will not be high quality recording. Rather it will be suitable for audio notes and lecture recording, things of that nature. The best bet for high quality audio recording (in compact packages) is the post here on recording to your PDA.
