Correct Levels For Vtr Output

If I mix in Final Cut at -12db, then output to tape to my DVCPro VTR. Should I set my tone on the VTR to -12db or -20db?

I output thru my Kona card thru XLR cables to the VTR.

It depends on the spec you want to follow. Most broadcast people are expecting -20DB on DVCPRO with peaks up to -12DB but you don't say where the output is being used.

On the DVCPro VTR the tone signal should be set to -20db. There should be a small arrow right above the -20db mark.

-20db is the magic #

At least thats the magic # with Mac Pro w FCP 5.1 and a Multibridge Decklink via HD>SD Y,B-Y,R-Y + XLR outputs to a DVCpro Deck. No problems get back to me from Fox or Televisa. Now quality of content is another story. ;)

But the same should apply to the AJA Kona card.

GOOD LUCK!!

I found it easy to call up Fox and lingo talk with their likings for ingestion of betacam and DVcpro content. I even got wind the DVCproHD deliverable content maybe on the horizon for FOX RIO.

PEACE
