48v Phantom Power of Soundcraft E12 or similar at DVinfo.net

Hi everyone,

I have a question for people who have used the soundcraft e12 or similar mixers. Looking at the mixer there is just one button to turn the phantom power on and therefore go over all the mic inputs. I have never used one of these mixers and for example say if i was micing up a band i may be using a range of condenser microphones on the drum kit and then a dynamic sm57 for the guitar. However the fact 48v will be going over all mic channels wont this be a problem using the dynamic microphones.

Paul, the way phantom power is applied is this - ground happens the same as signal ground, through pin 1 - then, BOTH of the other two pins get +48 volts - this means that a mic that does NOT use/need phantom power sees the same voltage across it's transducer (48 - 48 = 0) so it's no big deal.

AFAIK, the only non-condenser mic you'd need to worry about are most ribbon mics - the way these are wired, phantom can FRY 'em... Steve
