Recording at ocean

Hello,

I'll be video recording at various near-ocean locations (beach, bluffs, etc). I want to do two things: Record an interview with minimal "white noise" from the surf and (separately) record the ocean itself (with detail, not just white noise).

For the interview I'm assuming a lav (don't have one but will buy) but want to make sure that this will work--the ocean is *very* loud sometimes.

For the ocean recordings I did a search here and saw some general recommendations--but it seemed like few people had actually tried it. Maybe someone can suggest a board/resource for nature recorders?

I recorded at the beach with a shotgun (AT897) and a Rode Dead Cat not too long ago. The voices came out really well, especially when the mic was pointed away from the water. The Dead Cat did a really phenomenal job of cutting wind noise - I can barely hear it on the recording, and it was quite strong as the sun went down.

Because it was there I also recorded the ocean with my two AT897s. It was easy in low wind (and because there was virtually no one on the beach). I focused on a pretty tight range of water - not a true XY configuration - because I really liked how waves would slide from one side to the other this way. When I XYed them it sounded too disconnected.

Never done any of this with a lav - sorry I can't be of help where that's concerned.
