Lav mics for MicroTrack 24/96 users
I just purchased the 24/96 and recorded an event this weekend by setting up the included T-mic with an extension and using it as a lav. It worked pretty well, but I wouldn't normally want to use it that way because of the size. I was pretty pleased with the sound, other than it not being quite loud enough.
I'm curious to see which lav mics others are using. If it's phantom powered, how has the battery performance been? I would prefer to use a non-phantom mic but don't know if I'll be able to get enough volume. Thanks for your thoughts. |

I used mine for the first time yesterday, had some wierd things happen (second hour recording quit partway thru, I may have bumped the record button - but then the unit ignored my attempts to re-start recording by again pressing the record button)
Levels - couldn't get hot enough going into the mini jack, so cobbled up several adapters to use the TRS inputs (enabled the 27 dB gain in software, which seems to work fine) - on high position for sensitivity, feeding Rode videomic into right channel and Senn G2 receiver/lav into left, had the rec level nearly maxed in order to get the Rode hot enough, then turned down the Sennheizer to its lowest output level to (almost) match. I wanted this separate recording for failsafe and because both my DVcams have only AGC audio. Haven't had time to chase down the wierd shutoff thing, there was still plenty of battery indication. I'd just updated firmware to 1.4.3 the night before, may have missed the auto off "feature" but I doubt it, since the first hour recording didn't shut off before I wanted it to ??!? Also need to figure out just what my combo of adapters did, since a single stereo/stereo mini to 1/4 TRS out of the rode did NOT work ??!? (probably because IIRC, the Rode puts the same mono mic signal on BOTH the tip and ring, and the MIcrotrack expects to see a balanced TRS signal at the 1/4" inputs. Ended up using one input of a l/r RCA to TRS adapter which worked. Need more futz-around time to iron all this out, HTH... Steve |
