All around mic suggestion (indoor/outdoor)
I heard that shotgun mic only good indoors, Is there an all around mic good for both indoors and outdoors? my budget is less than $400. thanks!

This question has come up dozens of times, so if you do a serch, you'll find loads of info.Shotguns can be troublesome indoors, especially if the room has a lot of reverberation.My main on camera mic is an Audio Technika 897 which I'm very happy with. if you had to choose one mic only in your price range, that would be my suggestion. Also keep in mind that you really need to get the mic as close as possible to the sound source,which makes on cam micing often difficult. Bruce S. yarock |

Do I still need to remove the At-897 when shooting indoors? I read review of the Rode Videomic and they say it's an all around mic that can be use indoors is it true? I'm choosing now between At-897 and Rode Videomic.

I use my 897 a lot indoors when I'm shooting by myself. You get a better sound using a boom and hyper for interior dialogue,though, but the 897 works well. I've never tried the rode, but I hear that it's basically a consumer mic.
