Canon DM 50
I just purchased the DM 50 external Mic for my Optura 60 on Ebay( with no instructional booklet). Can anyone on this forum offer me some advice on the the best ways to use this device? Thanks!

The DM-50 is designed to be plug-and-play, so just plug it in and go. It runs off the camcorder's battery, and there are 3 settings to adjust the angle of rejection, so you can make it more or less sensitive to sounds coming from the sides. The only warning is, do not plug any other mics into the camcorder while you're using the DM-50, it's meant to be used by itself. Think of it as a replacement for the on-board mic for people who want better sound when running around.
That's about it. Have fun!

followup question:
I also was able to get a DM-50 mike, but it had no foam covering with it. Can you find these separately? If not, are there substitute or generic foam coverings available? |

You could contact Canon, but any generic windscreen that fits will work.
