AT 897 camera and minidisc recordings

Hello
I want to use my AT897 for my NV GS100 video camera and for making audio recordings using my minidisc recorder.

Both of these devices accept miniplug audio connections only. Do I need another device, a Beachtek DXA-4p or a preamp of some kind in order to use an XLR to Miniplug adapter and get decent sound?

The mic I was using is a Phillips SBC-ME400 unidirectional condenser. I assume its not very good and the AT897 will be far superior. I can't remember if it was originally XLR or miniplug, but I put a miniplug on it and have been using it for several years with minidisc and video cameras.

Am I doing this right? I'll appreciate any advice

Ray

Ray, you didn't mention what mindisc recorder you have, but you can plug the AT right into it with the XLR to mini adapter. You'll only need a preamp if the minidisc wants a larger signal than the AT provides.

Thanks

Hi Thanks...
I'm using a portable unit - a Panasonic JS MR100.
It takes a miniplug and I've used an XLR to Miniplug adapter before.. but I'd heard that the AT897 won't work well plugged directly into the cam or MD unit.

I decided to get the Rode NTG2 instead of the AT897 after reading so many reports on this site that its signal is often pretty weak and needs a preamp. This site praised the Rode NTG2 so go decided to go with it after doing some additional reading http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread...ighlight=at897

Thanks!
