I read a lot on the Irivers. Sounds promising in capturing "speech". I want to know if I need to do anything else as far as post production. Can the sound captured be plugged onto directly onto NLE time line or do I have to do "touch ups" on another audio program to get the capture sound good.

Second question, can somone give me an idea how much audio a 256mb can hold?

I have an iRiver 790T with a Giant Squid lav mic (there is a special one that Giant Squid makes for the iRiver because the iRiver is wired backward for mono). The sound is good considering it’s recording in MP3. There is a slight noise floor but I use Sound Soap 2 in post to remove it. (I use Sony Vegas NLE so I can do this right on the timeline)

Considering the price it’s a decent setup. You can get 3.5 hrs of 160kbps mono recording on 256MB memory.

Expected record times based on 512 Mb model (256 will be half...1Gb will be double the record time below)
In mono:
44hz 32kbps = 35 hours: 31 minutes
" " 40kbps = 28 Hours: 25 minutes

" " 56kbps = 20 hours: 18 minutes
" " 64kbps = 17 hours: 45 minutes
" " 80kbps = 14 hours: 12 minutes

" " 128kbps = 8 hours: 52 minutes

In the same vein, I have an Irivier H10, which doesn't have the same features as the older 120 for recording. Does anyone here have experience with it? I have the 20gig HD version.
Beachtek has come out with a DXA-10 designed for stereo recording to consumer based devices. Seems like that would be great if the quality made it into the Iriver.
