Hi all, as the title says, is there any advantage changing from the G2 to the EW100 G3 system?

G3 100 series systems have a slightly wider frequency block ranges and more channel banks and presets. Otherwise matching blocks are G2/3/4 cross-compatible, for instance, a 'block A'G3 Tx can be used with a 'block A' G2 Rx (or visa-versa) The Rx scanner scans the entire block for 'open' channels... though it is still inadequate for highly populated RF environments. I use a external scanner in my area (RF hell). There are other niceties in the G3 and 4 systems as well.
The EK100 portable receiver (Rx) has a diversity antenna system (the secondary antenna is the audio output cable) which yields slightly better reception and eliminates multi-path drop outs
The G3 transmitters (Tx) have a higher resolution 'sensitivity' setting, As I recall the G2 steps were in 10dB increments, the G3 are in 3dB increments.

Hi Rick, sorry, only getting back, thank you so much for your advice, I went on and bought the G3 radio mics and I can hear an improvement from my old G2.

Then the old one was worn out. I have lots of these and I intermix G2 and G3 because I like the G3 packs better than G2 but like the G2 handhelds. On paper - the bandwidth suggests there should be a small advantage to G2, but in practice. I've never had problems even including G1 kit (as long as you defeat the pilot-tone)

The only thing that can 'wear out' is the mic element and/or the cable. The G3 and G4 Rx has better reception though, in terns of interference.

No Nick, usage has quite a noticeable impact on these. Mainly board faults around the microphone input from the constant in/out. There are lifty pads on some caps that result in a raised mouse floor, and the RF output can drop quite a bit from mechanical failures. If the old one sounded poor, then it had drifted from spec. A new G2 and G3 are both quite transparent. I suspect the compander ratio is slightly different, but it’s very small. I cannot tell by ear with any certainty which pack is which, and unless you are squeezing in the maximum number of units following the G3 intermod frequencies using G2 (which doesn’t work well) I can mix and match.
