AT8022 + Tascam DR-44WL+Premiere

Did some concert recording with this mic and recorder combo. My question is when editing do I pan one channel left and the other right to get the correct stereo image? Seems like a dumb question I know, but mono tracks in Premiere always play in both channels and i want that left and right stereo seperation and also want to be doing it correctly for the best sound.

Thanks!
Ben

Yes! Conventionally, with dual mono files/tracks, the Ch 1 signal goes hard left, the Ch 2 goes hard right. But it’s worth a careful listen and thinking about it after you do those pans, as it’s easy to get L and R reversed during the recording process.

If premiere is like final cut then you should be able to link two mono tracks together to make them a stereo pair and it will pan them.

It will also help when editing to have them paired together.

Yes, as Seth stated, with two mono channels, hard left, hard right. Just like a stereo pair of mics into mixing board. By default most DAW, NLEs import a 2-channel poly file (stereo) as it is. FWIW, Vegas Pro has the option of changing the default import to two separate mono tracks, for example, if you have two lavs in an interview situation or a boom and lav.
