Go down to your local Auto spare store and get 2 'O' rings that fit, for a few cents they work a treat. (get a few more and keep in your kit as spares)

Not all mic holders are alike. My Sony handheld camera mic holders have soft hollow spongy knobs/nubs inside. Not much to shim with those.:-)
