I've never seen the special edition silver DR-40 in person, but I had the special edition blue DR-05 for a while after buying it from an online sale.
It worked fine, but the "special edition" plastic was as slick as oiled glass. I had to wait forever to find a regular matte black one on another sale. And I sold the blue one for the sale price I had paid, to someone who was literally going to attach it in one place and never carry it around in their hand. So not all "special edition sales" are without problems, but that was a great price today! (I could make a joke about "slipping through one's hands" whether you got one OR didn't get one, but I have no actual knowledge of the plastic in the version they were selling today.) Maybe someone who bought one will comment when it arrives. |

With luck we may see this same price soon from other vendors. At least I've seen that pattern when Tascam discontinued other models (DR-03, Pro-10, etc.) in the past.
