Rolls MX442 field mixer

I am on the hunt for a solid field mixer with at least three inputs for under a grand. I think I might be sacrificing quality for cost, but right now I don't have much of a choice. I have been checking out the Rolls MX442 and the specs look pretty good. I was just wondering if anybody here had any experience with it and, if not, had a good idea for an alternative. And also, what kind of differences should I expect to find in the various Breakaway cables that are out there? I know all audio quality questions come down to the "ear of the beholder," but I don't have any ability to hear a side-by-side comparison of a $300 breakaway cable next to a cheaper one. I appreciate the help. I recently went from doing musical audio (in the studio) to doing field audio for video and it's a whole new world.
