Tascam HD-P2 Portable recorder
Looks like we may have a winner here. AA batteries! 192/24bit! Preamps! Timecode! The only question is how much is it going to cost us???

I like that it takes off the shelf batteries. Tascam was famous for having propietery Ni-Cads with short life spans. Though I bet this will eat up batteries.
Yeah, I wonder about how much. |

A soundie I spoke to on Saturday said $990 US.... and he was also working on a link to strip timecode from the LANC output on a Z1P. That means that using a small wireless device [like the one from Black Box in the UK] - or the new Canon HDV camera for that matter - you can send the timecode to the audio reorder and have it sync stamped on the BWF files as you record. Double system wirelessly with timecode on both tracks at this price....
I know everyone on these forums seems camera obsessed - "24p" this and that - but to me *this* is the biggest jump in production at this price point since... well a long time anyway. Bring it! |
