Zoom H5 recorder

Just seen this, the new H5 recorder, could be useful for anyone needing a good quality audio recorder at a reasonable price https://www.zoom-na.com/products/fie...handy-recorder

Looks good and a nice idea to have interchangeable mic's and an extra input module, very flexible.

The i-fone plug in mic looks interesting too and I like that it is M/S rather than X/Y: https://www.zoom-na.com/products/fie...microphone-ios

Re: Zoom H5 recorder

I was very interested when they announced the H5, but now with the price released I'm out. For $269 they should have included the XLR expansion capsule, at least.

The price point for the H5 doesn't make much sense to me... The H5 has half the functionality of the H6, but it's 2/3 the price. The math says "buy the H6!"

My experience with the Zoom MS implementation has not been positive. The bidirectional info is picked up by a pair of cardioids back to back and in my evaluations this setup has noticeably more self-noise than their XY arrangement.

Re: Zoom H5 recorder

OK thanks Fran I will have to try before I buy and as I already have sony M/S mics an ifone interface may be more flexible as I already have the Rode record app.
