Selling CH67 Sony kit abroad?

I have some Sony wireless kit on Ch67 that's obviously now unusable in the UK and am wondering if this is still usable in any other country i.e. is there a market for it if I were to sell it?

I have the following:

WRR-855 Receiver
WRT-822B Transmitter
URX-P2 receiver
UTX-B2 transmitter.

Failing that, does anybody know if it's possible/viable to get these modified to work on CH38? I'm guessing this may only be viable for the WRR and WRT. I presume any mod would involve changing circuit boards or tuners etc?

Many thanks,

Paul.

Re: Selling CH67 Sony kit abroad?

Do you really mean Ch.67? and not Ch.69?

Ch.67 was only usable by the BBC or ITV on specific contracts in certain areas - or on a special fixed-site licence - and was tightly licensed.

Ch.69 was usable anywhere in the UK on a mobile licence - all licensed systems were bought back by the government so you could upgrade to Ch.38 kit.

Ch.67 and 69 are illegal all over Europe as these frequencies are now being used for wireless broadband.

I think they are also illegal in the Americas.

You *may* be able to get them changed to the licence-free Ch.70 frequencies (863-865MHz), but they would likely need a complete re-build to get them to Ch.38.

Re: Selling CH67 Sony kit abroad?

Thanks John,

The Sony kit I have covers Ch67-69 but of course was only used in the licenced CH69. We always bought the time limited site/area licences (although many times that didn't help much when other people were illegally using a frequency - the trade shows at Olympia etc were the worst).

We missed out on the buy back / compensation scheme :( never got the letters that were apparently sent out. possibly something to do with wrong addresses, Haven't used that kit for a long while and forgot about it. I don't think I can do anything now?

Cheers.

For sure that range is now out of bounds in the USA as well.

Re: Selling CH67 Sony kit abroad?

Thanks Chris.

Looks like this kit is really obsolete then. Shame as it's so good and in great condition :(

Anyone know if it's worth while modifying/ replacing pcb's and antennas etc to get it working on ch38? And if that's even possible?

Re: Selling CH67 Sony kit abroad?

CH38 wouldn't be practical. Radios don't generally allow for a frequency shift of that magnitude (850mhz to 600mhz) without a lot of changes that wouldn't be cost effective.

Re: Selling CH67 Sony kit abroad?

I think your best option is to see if it can be modified to work on the deregulated 863-865MHz frequencies in Ch.70 which are legal all over Europe.

Better than binning it.
