Neumann RSM191 Going, going, gone!
Hi,
I confirmed at AES that a seriously nice stereo/shotgun mic will no longer be manufactured and there are 14 left at the factory as of earlier this month. Here's the scoop. Ty Ford Audio and Video: Neumann RSM 191 Stereo/Shotgun Mic - Going, Going, Gone! And here's a great paper on M/S recording and the RSM191 from Neumann's Stephen Peus, who retired from Neumann several years ago. Regards, Ty Ford |

Re: Neumann RSM191 Going, going, gone!
I think Stephan retired less than two years ago - it was either the 31st December 2012 or 2011 (time flies).
He was certainly still with Neumann Berlin at the European AES in 2011. Neumann also discontinued the magnificent GFM 132 boundary mic. and also the TLM 170. However - they got so many complaints that they reversed their decision on the TLM 170 and, thankfully, it is still in production. Although the RSM 191A is a great mic., it is an AF mic. that could go crackly in the damp and the sales could not justify re-tooling after wearing out - that's my guess.
