Yamaha C24 vs Yamaha 2G

I ordered a Yamaha C24 and received a Yamaha 2G instead. Anyone know the difference? This device seems very cheap, but I do not feel like exchanging if it won't make any sigificant difference for my use as a lav mic recorder.

thanks in advance for any insight you can offer.

Re: Yamaha C24 vs Yamaha 2G

Another question about these units...will a lapel microphone need it's own power with these units? The Zoom H1 does not require a powered mic, and I want the same feature in whichever voice recorder I buy.

Regardless, I am returning the Yamaha 2g, I have found it is significantly older model than the C24. The G2 records at 16 bits instead of 24 bits, for what difference that makes.

Re: Yamaha C24 vs Yamaha 2G

From what I see, they're similar. The C24 is a 'newer' model, but 'discontinued' according to B&H. Alternately B&H states the 2G as 'unavailable'.. which I would assume is also 'discontinued' since it was released two years earlier.

See the Yamaha website for features, specs, ect. and you decide.

I would take umbrage to the substitution if not notified and/or given a nice discount.

Every portable recorder I've seen in the last five or so years that has an unbalanced 1/8" mic input have 'Plug-in power'. This includes cameras.

Re: Yamaha C24 vs Yamaha 2G

Rick, thank you kindly for the research! Glad to know this about voice recorders regarding the plug in power. I know squat about recorders and this was a concern, as I had a recorder a few years ago that did require a powered mic and it was an upleasant surprise.

Jeff, I too can confirm that the C24 does not need a powered microphone.
