squelch on g3
I've been using my g3 system for a year or more now at low squelch setting. But sometimes I still get loud white noise coming through my headphones in between takes for various reasons. I think it mostly happens when the actor has wandered too far away.
Am I correct that this "failure to squelch" problem occurs when the receiver sees a pilot tone but not audio signal? Or is it a carrier signal of some kind rather than the pilot tone? Anyway, the point is that this would only occur at the margins when the transmitter is turned on but far away, right; if the transmitter is very close then no squelch will occur, and if it's very far away then any squelch setting will squelch effectively.
So I'm thinking of moving up to squelch medium setting, and just curious if there's any reason to fear this... I suppose this will make me more likely to lose signal entirely when it's marginal, but if it's marginal signal then I probably didn't want to record anyway.
