The attenuator goes in the line between the recorder and the camera. I'd get one of the cables I linked to in my earlier post.

Does the Sony have a 2.5mm sub-minijack or a 3.5mm minijack mic input? I was under the impression it was the 3.5mm ... if so, that cable has the wrong connector on the camera end.
