Audio on Small Plane
This may be old hat to the folks here, but in case it helps someone . . .
There's a neat trick to getting good audio of ATC (air traffic control) and the pilots and passengers talking while on a general aviation plane (think Cessna or Beechcraft). Most pilots now use headsets featuring active noise reduction (ANR). This is like the Bose noise reducing headsets -- they cancel out much of the engine and wind noise. The easiest way to get this audio is to put a lav mic inside the ear cup of the headset. The ANR reduces outside noise, and the intercom and the audio from the radios comes in clearly. Works well. |
