How do I create the sound effect that you can hear in Topher Grace's voice as he talks to Isabelle as she is experiencing a neurotoxin?

I attached a clip from the Predators(2010) movie.

Without actually trying it out, my guess would be a blend of a straight dialog track with a copy run thru something like a vocorder plugin, or a grunge plugin, with some varying EQ to bring out the gutteral sound that builds during the piece....there's lots of free VST plugins to play with, available on the net. Throw in some echo or pull the effect track out of synch here and there, as well....
