vp88 and mkh40/30 stereo mic, windshields
i bought 10 years ago for musical pourposes a shure vp 88, i own a mkh 40 too with the mzs 40 shock mount, I am preparing my gear for a nature documentary work, budget not very confortable, and i want to optimize my gear to have best result.
good combination for stereo capture sound is a mkh 40 /mkh30, i need to hire or buy a mkh 30 but what about the basket wind shield, is there something for the MZS 40 ? or I have to buy a full kit for 2 microphones. what about the my drum overheads shure vp 88 that has helped me in hundreds situations indoor. i dont have any accessory to use it on location applications, so no any pistol grip, or windshield, is anyone of you using it? what pistolgrip, windshield etc can use with it? For the VP-88 I would use a Rycote InVision mount for indoor use - I think it needs a special one, though, as it is long and front-heavy.
For outdoor use, you will really need the full Rycote stereo windshield kit for the MKH 30/40, but the VP-88 would also fit in this. The Rycote AG kit would fit the VP-88, the MKH 416/MKH 30 or the MKH 30/40, though if you wanted the 30/40 only you could have a shorter windshield. If you give Rycote a ring directly they will be happy to advise you exactly what you need.

ANY SUGGESTION ON WHERE ORDER IT?
I ORDERED WS Kit AGBACK TO BACK CLIPS FOR MKH416 -40 OR 30 HOPING THAT WOULD FIT on THE MZS 20-1 and basket WINDSHIELD, but the WS Kit AG would cover vp88 also. thanks |

Talk to Rycote direct and they will tell you exactly what you need. You basically get one kit plus a few extra clips that you swap over when you change mics. The kit comes with the driver to change them over easily.

the Vp-88 is a big heavy mic as you already know... sure you want to use it outside when light weight / being mobile counts ? I've used it on camera for ambience and it worked great for that when shooting construction equipment doing its thing.
