Tascam DR-03 mic power ?
Does anyone know if the DR-03 provides power for external mics? Specificly lav mics.. I can't seem to find the answer in the specs or manual.
Thanks Ben |

Re: Tascam DR-03 mic power ?
Page 11 of the (pdf) manual says: "Stereo mini-jack for external input (supports mics that require plug-in power)." I don't find any other mention or details in a brief skim through the manual.

Re: Tascam DR-03 mic power ?
Thanks Greg. I missed that. I was looking down at the bottom under specs. The other Tascam models I was looking at all had details about plug-in power in the specs section.

Re: Tascam DR-03 mic power ?
You're quite welcome, not a problem.
Actually, I looked first under "specs" and it certainly isn't there. For that matter, they list mic input impedance as 200kohms, which is, I think, ridiculously high. And if there is a resistor feeding "plug-in power" to the mic jack, that resistor is probably 1k to 2k ohms, which effectively lowers the input impedance. Something seems squirrely (sp?) about this whole area. At any rate, if you do get a DR-03, please set it for "Manual" recording gain. Then try changing recording gain after you drop it into record mode. And post your results in the thread I started for that topic. I'm quite curious, and, again, the manual leaves something to be desired. Carry on! |
