Fry-erWire Woes - not just for cameras:-(

Let's preface this by saying that I'm REALLY careful when hooking my camera etc to my PC's. I have an isolator box in place and I really watch how the fry-erwire connectors are oriented.

So would you believe that I just blew my Sound Devices 702 by hooking it up to a system that didn't have the isolator in place and that I somehow got the connector reversed?

Believe it!!!!!

Bad smell, no power on, etc etc etc.

Think I'll go find a dark corner and cry!

I'll call them first thing Monday.

The subject of FryerWire damaging cameras comes up frequently, so I thought I'd post this to let folks know that sound gear can be blown as well. Be careful!

Thanks for the condolences. As you might expect I'm not a happy camper right about now. Fortunately I finished a series of recordings yesterday and have a break before the next set so hopefully they can get it repaired before I need it again.

Just an update.

The folks at Sound Devices confirmed that this is almost certainly a blown FRYERWIRE port and offered me a loaner for a nominal price while mine is being repaired. Quick response. I.m sending the 702 back today.
