M-Audio has said that they expect their first shipment on the first of September.

DSE,
Do you know if they had an operational model at the NAB? Based on the specs, any thoughts about its expected performance?

They didn't have one at the NAB 05, no. That was back in April, they only announced this a few weeks ago. You'll see working models at NAB Post Plus, which is in November, but it will have been shipping long before then. I've seen a prototype, and it looked pretty sweet. Expensive, but also made for professional use, with phantom power, balanced inputs, and 24 bit capability.

I'll be reviewing it soon, as I've already ordered a production line model.

I look forward to hearing ya'lls reviews. My hope is that the pre-amp is powerful enough so an additional mixer/preamp is not required.

Recently, I purchased a Creative Zen Micro-drive for my gf and she was telling me that the built in microphone recorder had a nice sound to it. I checked it out and was surprisingly impressed by how well it did sound. I'm considering using it as a room mic during production.
