Your uses for a standalone audio recorder unit

I'm looking to purchase a standalone audio recorder for a one-off usage. Given the dollars involved, I might as well also make it the most suitable purchase with regards to possible future usage.

So .... how do others here use one of these units in regular video production?

Andrew

Your question is a little broad and vague to answer specifically. Stand-alone recorders can be used for double-system sync sound to give higher audio quality than recording in camera, to capture FX and ambience, for wild sound, to record dialog when more than two iso tracks are needed, and any other sound recording situation. Your question also needs to be more specifc as to what level of recorder you're talking about - the potential uses of a $200 pocket recorder would be quite different from a $15000 Deva.

For regular use in video recording you should start by looking at the Sound Devices 702T I would think.
