?? Actually it certainly does have something to do with how the camera records sound...even a DV camera records uncompressed audio...HDV records MPEG2 compressed audio, HDV is transport stream MPEG.

I have no argument with the rest of what you're saying, and I'm not saying that an HDV camcorder records unacceptable audio...I'm just saying that it's certainly worthy of note as compressing audio immediately on acquisition has consequences...

^^^well, personally, I'm waiting for the scoop on the new Tascam DR-680, because if it's as good as we're all hoping, I'd consider that piece a game changer...
