Peak/Normal Audio Levels in my NLE

Is there a certain audio level I should be shooting for to have my DVDs sound the same as professional DVDs? When I have output stuff that peaked at 0db, I had to turn my TV down from what is usually comfortable. I'm shooting for -6db now, is that better?

I know, there are a number of kinds of level measurements. I'm talking about whatever, Premiere and Audition use by default.

Thanks,
Josh

What you should shoot for is -12db that’s the standard
