Rode' Videomic
Anyone seen this yet? Rode' sent me one to review, just curious as to anyone's thoughts that have seen it either on paper or up close and personal. It's considerably different than I expected it to be.

Douglas, I think you're on the cutting edge with this one. There isn't even any info on Rode's own website about it. I googled "videomic" and I got a handful of sites that showed a picture but no real specs. I'd love to know more about it so if you get a chance to check it out I'll be all ears!
If you can post any kind of example (like you have with some other mics and techniques) that would be great! It's no secret that I've been very happy with Rode mics ever since Beas first turned me onto the nt1a... Since then I've had 8 or so Rode mics and they seem to offer a LOT for the money. So where does this new mic fit into the spread? |

Like Matt, I also googled it and found that dvinfo.net member Ty Ford mentions that he has one:
http://www.camcorderinfo.com/bbs/t103783.html Maybe he'll stop by and share some details. I'm loving my NT1A, but this info on the Videomic leads to believe that it might not be of too much use to me (with pic): http://www.hhb.co.uk/hhb/uk/products/detail.asp?ID=1901 Hot shoe mounted with 9V battery power? XLRs or not? I'm a babe in the woods when it comes to mics, but I'm not sure if I would need this mic. If only because it's going to take up the shoe on my cam... I guess I can't tell what the intended market for this mic is... Either way, I would love to learn more about it. |

Got one here, but we've been away and I need to get up with someone with a camcorder. Anyone here in Baltimore?

Hey Ty,
I live in the Hamilton/Parkville area and own a GL2. You're more than welcome to stop by tonight or tomorrow night if you want to test out the mic. Friday night I'll be at the Creative Alliance for the CAmm Slamm Re-Run (we won 1st this year), and could even bring the GL2 by for some pre-event testing. Just let me know! http://www.sundancemediagroup.com/ar...e_VideoMic.htm if you're interested in my opinion.
Very nice mic, if you're looking for lowcost, lightweight mic that will sit on a smaller camcorder. It blows the Azdens out of the water, and has a shockmount and power built in. It's definintely not an AT 897 or a higher end Schoeps, but it's a good mic in it's price category, IMO. At retail, it's a little pricey for quality, but at the street value, it's a very nice option, IMO
