Which audio interface?

So I've decided that it's time to get an audio interface to replace the lousy onboard audio on my PC. I will be using the interface pretty much only for monitoring audio coming out of the system, so things like lots of inputs are not that important to me. All I am looking for is good playback quality and a volume knob (I have KRK VXT-4 monitors, which have no volume control)

I do have a Presonus Audiobox, but the thing simply refuses to work properly with my PC. I have no idea if it's drivers or if it is broken. Either way I want to avoid anything from Presonus.

I'm using a PC with Windows XP

Thanks for the help!
